Electronics & Communication Engineering Department

 ONE DAY WORKSHOP ON

PROGRAMMING DSPs GRAPHICALLY, NO C, NO CCS, NO ASSEMBLY

The workshop was conducted by the Department of Electronics and Communication jointly with National Instruments, Bangalore. The mentor for the workshop was Er.M.Satish, Academic Specialist from National Instruments, who is also an Alumnus of the ECE department belonging to the 1999-2003 batch. The participants were faculty from various engineering colleges, engineers from Industrial organizations in and around Coimbatore and final-year students.

After the inaugural ceremony, there was a video presentation on ‘Virtual Instrumentation’ (VI) which served as an expository to the workshop. He also explained the various constructs of the virtual instrumentation using the LabVIEWTM software. At the end of the presentation, participants were in for a more interesting session of the day, ‘The hands on Training’ in the Systems lab of ECE department. This workshop provided an exposure to practical training on programming the DSPs without going through the cumbersome techniques of programming languages such as C, CCS, and Assemblies. In short this workshop made DSP programming much simpler through graphical techniques.

The topics covered in the workshop were:

§         Simulating and analyzing signals.

§         Integrating simple filters.

§         Acquiring analyzing and generating sounds in real time.

§         Design and implementation of Digital filters.

At last the talents of the participants were put to test by Er. Satish. They were to do a DSP model on their own and those who were the first to finish were awarded.

The One day workshop concluded with the Valedictory function. All the participants were awarded certificates of participation. The management heartily lauded the efforts of the organizers of the workshop, Prof.M.Ramachandran, head of the department, Mr.P.Premkumar and Mrs.P.Chitra, Selection grade lecturers of the Department and also appreciated the magnanimous act of Er.M.Sathish.
