One Day Workshop on
Problems and Treatment of
Foundation Soils
As part of
Golden Jubilee Celebrations of Coimbatore Institute of Technology,
Coimbatore. One Day Workshop on " Problems and Treatment of
Foundation Soils" was organised by the Department of Civil
Engineering on 13th March 2006.
The workshop was organised with the aim of educating the
participants in identifying the Soil problems and suggesting
suitable remedies for the same.
The target group for this workshop were the under graduate
students and practicing civil engineers.
Beloved Principal Dr. R. Prabhakar inaugurated the workshop with
lighting Kuthu Vizakku and Administrative Officer Prof. E.
Ramasamy offered inaugural address.
Dr. S. Boominathan, Former Professor of Anna University, Chennai,
the chief guest, delivered his key note address on
"Amelioration measures for distressed lightly loaded structures
built on expansive clays - An over view".
Other Speakers include Dr. M. Palani Kumar, Faculty of PSG College
of Technology, Coimbatore who delivered his lecture on
"Geotechnical Investigations ". Dr. K. Subramanian, Professor and
Head of Civil Engineering, CIT, Coimbatore presented a lecture on
" Ground Improvement Techniques" and Mr. R. S. Sridhar spoke on
Problems and Treatment of Foundation soils.
The workshop went on well and benefited the participants in
identifying problems of soil, selecting the appropriate method of
treatment and remedial measures.
