       This one day workshop was inaugurated at 9.15 am on 14th July 2006 in the A/c Conference Hall (IT Block). After invoking the blessings of the Lord by a prayer song rendered by Ms. Usha, a III year Chemical Engineering student, the Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering Prof. E. Ramasamy delivered the welcome address in which he emphasized the need and urgency of taking up the task of Energy Auditing not only at the Industries level but also at the domestic level due to the rapid depletion of fossil fuels. Mr. S. Gopalakrishnan, Organising Secretary of the workshop, gave an overview of the workshop highlighting the importance of organising this workshop as a part of golden jubilee celebrations of CIT and also elucidated the idea of selecting the target group of participants from Industries, faculty members from Academic Institutions, Researchers and Students for conducting such workshop. Dr. R. Prabhakar, Principal, CIT, delivered the Presidential Address highlighting the need to optimize the energy usage including the utilities as a first step for effective management. Mr. A. Sivalingam, faculty of Chemical Engg. dept., introduced the Chief Guest Prof. S. Balachandran to the august gathering. Prof. S. Balachandran, Head, School of Energy, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore  who was the chief guest inaugurated the workshop and delivered the inaugural address. Dr. K. Subramanian Co-Ordinator of IIPC of CIT briefed the various activities of the Industry Institute Partnership Cell and also gave his felicitations for the workshop. The inaugural function ended with a vote of thanks by Dr. R. Saravanan,  Asst. Professor, Dept. of Chemical Engg., followed by National Anthem.

 

 

       46 persons had registered for the workshop. The first session was by Prof. S. Balachandran who dealt in detail about the modalities for Energy Audit in Industries. The second session was by Dr. R. Prakasam on Energy Conservation in Textile processing Industries. After lunch break the third session was by Mr. C. V. Venkatasubramanian on Energy Management and Conservation in Specialty Chemical Industry with illustrative case studies. At the conclusion of each session there were question and answer sessions and the participants took active role in such deliberations. At the concluding session the participants were presented with certificates by Prof. E. Ramasamy, Chairman of the workshop and the participants after giving their feed back left on a happy note.
