Treatment of Industrial Effluents Using Electrochemical Method

A workshop on Treatment of Industrial Effluents using ElectroChemical method was organized on February 6, 2006 by department of Chemical Engineering in association with Industry-Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) (Sponsored by AICTE, New Delhi). There were 52 participants that comprises from industry and academic institution for the workshop.

Prof. S. Gopalakrishnan of Chemical Engineering department welcomed the gathering. Dr. R. Saravanan, organizing secretary for the workshop, emphasized the relevance of the workshop in the present context with examples from industrial scenario and gave an overview of the workshop. Dr. R. Prabhakar, Principal CIT, Coimbatore, in his address stressed the importance of the workshop and highlighted the various activities of the institute during this golden jubilee year. Dr. K. Subramanian, Coordinator- IIPC, in his address presented the various activities of the IIP cell of CIT.

The lectures were delivered by two senior scientists from Central Electrochemical Research Institute (CECRI), Karaikudi.Dr. C. Ahmed Basha in his lecture discussed the environmental effects of industrial effluents, the recent changes in the regulations of industrial effluents, basics of electrochemistry, treatment of organic effluents using electrochemical method and modelling of electrochemical reactors.  Dr. Basha presented some interesting case studies on the electrochemical treatment of industrial effluents. Dr. B. Ramesh Babu, in his lecture discussed about various methods for the treatment of industrial effluents and the feasibility of going for electrochemical method to treat the effluent.

In the end a feed back was received from the participants on the workshop. The certificates were distributed by the resource persons to the participants. Prof. A. Sivalingam of chemical engineering department presented the vote of thanks.
