Advanced Signal Processing Techniques
Organised by
Department of ECE
Jointly with
Industry Institute Partnership
Cell (IIPC) of CIT,
Paradigm Technologies Pvt Ltd,
SANDS Instrumentation Pvt Ltd.
on 23rd and 24th February 2006

A two day workshop on 'Advanced Signal Processing
Techniques" was organised by the Department of ECE, jointly with
Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC) of CIT, Paradigm
Technologies Pvt Ltd, and SANDS Instrumentation Pvt Ltd on 23rd and
24th, February, 2006.
The workshop was inaugurated in the presence of Prof. M.
Ramachandran, Head of ECE Department, Prof. E. Ramasamy,
Administrative Officer and Dr. K. Subramanian, Coordinator,
Industry Institute Partnership Cell (IIPC), CIT.
The
first session was on "VLSI Image Processing" by Dr. S. Srinivasan,
Professor and Head of Electrical Engineering Department of IITM,
Chennai. The talk started with a historical note on Electronics
and ended with the hottest topic of image processing using VLSI
chips. The attractive point was that all the theory was supported
by the implementation, comparative study and results of
experiments carried out by Dr. S. Srinivasan.
The second session was on "Adaptive Filters" by Dr. Ashok Rao,
Head , Networking Project, CEDT, IISc, Bangalore. He discussed on
Wiener filter implementation, Correlation Canceller Loop, Gradient
Descent algorithm, Widrow-Hoff LMS algorithm and a comparison
between the various filters.
The afternoon session was on " Current Trends in DSP and its
Applications" by Mr. A. P. Sundar, Head Training, SANDS
Instrumentation Pvt Ltd., Chennai. His talk included Embedded
Systems, Architecture, advantages and real time applications of
special Digital Signal Processors.
The second day of the workshop started with a lecture on " Multi
User Detection in Wireless Communication Systems" by Dr. J.
Thiruvengadam, Asst. Prof. ECE Department, Thiagarajar College of
Engineering, Madura i.
His presentation threw light on source coding, channel coding, and
multiple access techniques in CDMA systems.
The following session was on " Audio Signal Processing" by Dr. N.
Malmurugan, Consultant, DSP and Simulation Group, Satyam
Development Center, Bangalore. He provided information about
bandwidth of raw audio data and the ways of transmitting it. MP-3
and MPEG-4 standards were also discussed.
The post-lunch session was on "Multirate Systems and Filter Banks"
by Dr. Elizabeth Elias, Professor and Head, Department of
Electronics Engineering, NIT, Calicut. The focus was on
decimation, interpolation, prevention of aliasing and digital
filter banks.
The Valedictory function was graced by the presence of Dr.
R. Prabhakar, Principal, CIT, Prof. M. Ramachandran, Head of ECE
Department and Prof. E. Ramasamy, Administrative Officer, CIT. The
Chief Guest of the function. Dr. Elizabeth Elias concluded the
