Speakers:
Ms. Vandana Mishra Dr .A.
Kannan
Database Administrator,
Assistant Professor,
Intel
Technologies, Bangalore.
Department of CSE,
Anna
University, Chennai.
The workshop was inaugurated and presided by Dr.R.Prabhakar,
Principal, CIT and Prof.E.Ramaswamy, Administrative Officer, CIT.
The academicians, research scholars and students from various
educational institutions attended the workshop.
Objective:
The size of data sets is already growing exponentially, and we can
expect that growth rate to accelerate. At the same time industries
are using a higher and higher percentage of data for decision
support and analysis. The result of these two trends is the
development of Very Large Data Bases (VLDBs).
VLDBs are best
defined not in terms of a fixed size but by the challenges they
present:
Ø
First, they make it difficult to fit maintenance and management
tasks into an allotted time to avoid negatively impacting
application performance and data availability.
Ø
Second, they can impede query performance by consuming a great
deal of time and resources in order to return the required data.
Ø
Third, they affect the cost of operating applications.
Benefits of the workshop:
This workshop enlightened the participants on
-
The
role of database administrator in handling Very Large Data Base
Challenges such as Data partitioning, Load Balancing and Storage
Area Network by Ms.Vandana Mishra, Intel.
-
The
conceptual facts of the academic research on Active, Spatial,
Temporal and Deductive Databases by Dr. A. Kannan, Anna
University.
