Short Term Training Programme

on

NANOTECHNOLOGY AND ITS APPLICATIONS

 

 

                The department of EEE in association with ISTE conducted a Short Term Training Programme on NANOTECHNOLOGY AND ITS APPLICATIONS during 9-22, MAY 2011.

The programme was inaugurated by Er.RajGovindarajan, Managing Director, Flow Link Systems (P)Ltd.,Coimbatore. In his inaugural address he mentioned that a centre for nanotechnology is proposed to be setup in Coimbatore where the key researches can be taken up in this nanotechnology and its applications. Dr.V.Selladurai, Principal, CIT in his presidential address, addressed the importance of nanotechnology in manufacturing process and also highlighted how it will create a new impact on the future generation productivity and nanotechnology significance in GDP growth of the nation. Dr.S.Shanmugam, Administrative Officer, CIT, felicitated the delegates. Dr.V.Jagannathan, Professor and  Head, EEE, CIT rendered the welcome address. 21 Faculty members participated in this programme. Dr.S.Vasantharathna and Dr.S.Suja coordinated the programme

NanoTechnology and  its applications – An Introduction was delivered by Dr.T.Kannadasan, Prof. and Head, Chemical Engineering, CIT, Coimbatore. He correlated an egg shell with the nano technology and also explained about the nano bonding structures.

Dr.N.Muthukumarasamy, Prof. and Head, Physics Department, CIT, Coimbatore, in his lecture on Nano Materials, discussed about the bonding structures and the variation in these bonding structures can transform the properties of a material and the importance of it in nanosciences. He also briefed about the research activities that are taken up in our CIT campus in this field of nanosciences and solar cell fabrications.  

Mr.Rajan Ganesh, Assistant Professor, EEE, Thiagarajar College of Engg., Madurai, delivered on Nanocomposites and Dielectrics , and the research avenues in this area.

A scintillating lecture on Nano Technology Applications in Electrical Engineering was delivered by Dr.S.Suja, Assistant Professor, EEE, CIT, CBE.

Nano Materials in Medicine, delivered by Dr.Agilan, Assistant Professor, Physics Department, CIT, Coimbatore, discussed how the inhouse (CIT campus ) fabricated medical diagnostic sensors  are installed in mammal animals to study the physiological activity of the body.

Dr.S.Vasantharathna, Associate Professor,EEE,CIT,CBE, correlated nanotechnology  with culture and heritage of India in her talk on Small is Beautiful.

Polymer Electronics, delivered by Dr.BinduSalim, Professor,Centre for NanoTechnology, PSG Tech highlighted on nanotechnology in printing technology and the snapshots of facilities available in PSG Tech nanocentre.               

Dr.HariPriya, Assistant Professor, ICAR-KVK,TNAU, Vridhachalam delivered an interesting lecture on Perspective and Application of Nano Technology in Horticulture.    

Nano magnetic materials, was delivered by Dr. Ponpandian, Professor, Centre for Nanotechnology, Bharathiar University, Coimbatore

Dr.J.Devishree, Assistant Professor, EEE, CIT, CBE delivered an interesting lecture on NanoScience in Solar Applications.    

Mr.Pranav, Senior Manager (Bosch Sensortec), Robert Bosch Engineering and Business Solutions Limited, Coimbatore delivered an interesting lecture on MEMS and its influence in industry and he highlighted on how NEMS is different from MEMS technology. He also demonstrated the same.

Dr.Hamsamani, Associate Professor, Avinashilingam University               delivered on Nanotextiles, and the research avenues in this area of specialization.

Dr.Vinod, Professor , EEE, PSG Tech delivered a talk on Nano Robots, and he also showed some of the interesting video shows on  the flying robots and unmanned robots.            

Dr.KamalaSundari,Assistant Professor, KVK, TNAU, Madurai, presented an interesting and very useful lecture on  Nano Foods. The importance of nano packaging to avoid contamination was clearly demonstrated. The need for improving the shelf life of the foods using nano technology was also highlighted.
