ONE DAY GREEN BUILDING AWARENESS PROGRAMME

Department of Civil Engineering, Coimbatore Institute of Technology (CIT), Coimbatore, India Society of Technical Education (ISTE) and Italian Certification for Quality Mark (ICMQ) India, New Delhi Jointly organized ONE DAY GREEN BUILDING AWARENESS PROGRAMME at Coimbatore Institute of Technology, Coimbatore on Friday, 5^th August 2011. The programme was sponsored by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) in collaboration with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), New Delhi, Green Rating for Integrated Habitat Assessment (GRIHA), New Delhi.

The programme aimed at receiving 20 participants from Practicing Engineers and Architects in the Coimbatore City, 20 participants from Faculty in Engineering and Architectural Institutions and 50 students from Engineering and Architectural Institutions. The programme received overwhelming response from Civil Engineering community across the state and the registration was closed one week before the start of the programme. A total number of 112 participants which includes 20 practicing Civil Engineers and Architects, 20 Faculties, and 72 Students from Engineering and Architectural Institutions participated in the programme.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr.CEASARE SACCANI, Managing Director, ICMQ India presided by Dr. K. SUBRAMANIAN, Professor and Head of Civil Engineering, CIT

The morning session of the programme started with a lecture delivered by Dr.CEASARE SACCANI, Managing Director, ICMQ India, was wonderful on “OVERVIEW OF SUSTAINABILITY AND GREEN BUILDINGS”, the way in which he gave ideas about sustainability and concepts of green buildings. The next technical lecture was delivered by Ms. CHITRA CHIDAMBARAM, Head, Building Certification ICMQ, New Delhi on “GREEN BUILDING DESIGN AND PERFORMANCE” was very informative in which Building layout design, External development, ECBC Code, Water conservation, Waste Reduction and Management and Health and comfort living concepts were dealt with clear explanatory examples of the existing systems in India.

The afternoon session started with a technical talk delivered by Ms. CHITRA CHIDAMBARAM, Head, Building Certification ICMQ, New Delhi on “GREEN MATERIALS, CONSTRUCTION, OPERATION and MAINTENANCE” was effective and illustrative for the participants to understand the basics of green materials, green technologies, sustainable construction sites and ISO 50001 system concepts. The final technical talk was delivered by Dr.CEASARE SACCANI, Managing Director, ICMQ India, was constructive on “GREEN RECOGNITION SYSTEMS”, on recently developed standards for green building rating systems like LEED and GRIHA was applauded by every participant.

The concluding remarks of the programme was summarised by Ms. CHITRA CHIDAMBARAM, Head, Building Certification ICMQ, New Delhi. In the feedback session, the participants felt that the programme was of more informative, inspirational and beneficial to the Society. M. P. MUTHURAJ and R. SARASWATHI, Assistant Professor, Department of Civil Engineering, co-ordinated the programme thanked the keynote speakers and all the participants at the end of the programme.
